As our society develops, organ donation has been an increasingly popular topic. However, talking about life and death can still be overwhelming sometimes.
How do we start the conversation about organ donation with children, without scaring them?
Build-a-bear workshop has teamed up with the NHS organ donation organization to find out a beary unique solution.
We aim to educate children by reusing the hearts and eyes from old teddy bears. They live again, to hug twice.
As much love as they were given, old worn bears usually end up collecting dust in a corner.
But with the bears from build-a-bear, the eyes and heart of the bear can be reused in a new toy.
And that's how we encourage children to learn about life and donating organs.
To start the process, simply print out a donor card with your own number, and write what you want to donate from the bear.
Then take off the heart-shaped part in the middle.
Send this, together with the bear, back to the build-a-bear workshop;
And we will repackage the heart and eyes of the bear.
Children can read the cards written by donors and use a bear organ bundle to build a new bear online or offline for free.
In addition, they also get a bear rebirth certificate with details specifically showing the bear has had an organ transplant.
Finally, a thank-you card will be written by the child and then delivered to the bear donor by build-a-bear. Once it is inserted back in the original donor card, this bear organ donation is complete.
People can share their donor card on social media with #hugtwice to get more people join the campaign.
A collection of thank-you notes will be posted online, written by the children who want to share their thanks to others to help more bears.
